Weber State football: Wildcats earn poll respect with wins
Weber State moved up in one poll and debuted in another after beating Montana State 35-12 on Saturday.
The Wildcats moved up four spots, from No. 22 to No. 18, in The Sports Network's Football Championship Subdivision top 25 poll. Weber State was shockingly left out of The FCS Coaches Poll last week after it beat Montana on Oct. 4, but debuted at No. 20 in the poll on Monday.
The FCS Coaches Poll is based exclusively on a voting panel of head coaches in the FCS and administered by the Southern Conference. Two head coaches from each of the 14 FCS conferences participate in the voting.
Also on Monday, the Big Sky Conference named Weber State quarterback Cameron Higgins as the offensive player of the week.
Higgins, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound sophomore, completed 29-of-36 passes for 366 yards and four touchdowns in Weber State's 35-12 road win over Montana State. Despite snow and strong wind, Higgins produced his fourth 300-yard passing day of the season. Higgins fired TD passes of 15, 58 yards and two of 5-yards as the Wildcats beat Montana State for the first time since 2000. Higgins leads the nation with 2,138 passing yards, and is tied for the national lead with 23 touchdown passes. This is Higgins' third player of the week honor this season.
