GUANAJUATO, Mexico — Weber State women's track standout Sarah Callister captured a gold medal for the U.S. team in the 10,000-meter run over the weekend at the 2012 North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Under-23 Track and Field Championships.
Callister posted a time of 35:46.12 in winning the women's 10,000 by more than 20 seconds in a race that was run under extremely windy conditions.
Callister, an Ogden native and former Ogden High School track and cross country star, won a total of four Big Sky Conference titles in indoor and outdoor track this year. In indoor track, she swept the 3,000- and 5,000-meter events and was second in the mile, helping Weber State win the conference title and earning her Female Athlete of the Meet honors for her performance. In outdoor track, she swept the 5,000 and 10,000 meters for the third consecutive season, becoming the first athlete in conference history to win both events in three straight years.
Last fall, she earned All-Conference honors in cross country by finishing fifth at the Big Sky Championships, helping Weber State win the conference title. The WSU senior-to-be also received Academic All-American honors for the second straight year.
