The last of 22,600 VX nerve agent-filled land mines at the Deseret Chemical Depot have been destroyed.

Workers at the Tooele Chemical Agent Disposal Facility finished the job Friday, which polished off the last of the nerve agent that was stored at the facility.

The project has also included the destruction of tons of the nerve agent GB, or sarin.

"By destroying the entire stockpile of GB and VX agent stored at DCD, we have tremendously reduced the risk to the surrounding community," said TOCDF project manager Ted Ryba.

Next on the facility's list is the processing of the neutralized chemicals, decontamination of the plant and work on 125,000 mustard agent-filled weapons.
