Trial lawyers failed for a second time to amend a bill clarifying the inherent risk of skiing, which will now head to the House floor.

The amendment, introduced by Rep. Susan Lawrence, R-East Millcreek, would have expanded the responsibility of ski resorts to mark potentially dangerous structures on the slopes.

"It's not oppressive to do proper roping and marking," Lawrence said. "We need to make sure our ski areas are being prudent and are marking and padding where appropriate."

SB135, sponsored by Logan Republican Lyle Hillyard, would update what is considered inherently dangerous in the sports of skiing and snowboarding. It advanced out of the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday.

The bill would further protect ski resorts from lawsuits based on accidents occurring at the mountain.
