A report released Wednesday has ranked nearly 600 communities in Utah at risk for wildfires. The Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands said so far, 100 communities have created wildfire protection plans and 50 more are in progress.

Utah communities considered at extreme risk for fire danger include: Fruitland, Duchesne County; Quichapa, Iron County; Eureka, Juab County; Kanosh and Oak City, Millard County. Many other counties including Wayne, Sanpete, Sevier, Cache and Garfield counties are considered at high risk for wildfires.

"Down in the southwest, it's been looking pretty dry there until recently," Jim Springer, spokesman for the Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands, said. "They've had some storms, but that's going to add to the fuel."
