Friday's meeting of the Utah Governor's Office of Economic Development Board featured the departures of the office's managing director and the board's vice chairman.

Martin Frey announced he would leave the managing director post to rejoin the private sector. Citing business responsibilities, Dell Loy Hansen said he would be resigning from the board after eight years.

Frey joined state government in January 2005 when Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. fired nearly three dozen staffers at what was then known as the Department of Community and Economic Development. He came on board as co-manager of the department, along with Ladd Christensen, who stayed only a few months before leaving the department.

Frey later was officially designated the department's director and became managing director of GOED's business development division during the department's transition to the governor's office last summer.

Hansen lauded Frey as "one of the premier talents" in Utah for economic development.
