Ex-Olympic facilities in need of new boss
Applications to head the private foundation that operates the state's former Olympic facilities at the Utah Olympic Park near Park City, as well as the Utah Olympic Oval in Kearns, are being accepted through this Friday.
The foundation's current president and chief executive officer, John Bennion, is leaving at the end of the month for a position with Sorenson Capital. The private equity firm is run by the foundation's chairman, Fraser Bullock.
Bennion, who worked with Bullock on the Salt Lake Organizing Committee responsible for the 2002 Winter Games, said he's "enjoyed building the Olympic legacy at the UAF, but the Sorenson Capital opportunity is a perfect fit with my background and interests."
The foundation is funded with some $75 million in profits from the Olympics but has yet to get out of the red. The bobsled track, ski jumps, speed-skating oval and other facilities at the two sites are used by both amateur and elite athletes for training and competition.
