Rocky's resolutions OK'd at conference
The mayors passed 98 resolutions during their 74th annual meeting in Las Vegas last weekend, including all six that Anderson sponsored:
Opposing mandatory minimum sentences.
Promotion of clean, renewable energy sources.
Responding effectively and immediately to the human rights tragedy in Sudan.
Reducing travel demand by providing alternatives.
Support of border security and comprehensive immigration reform.
Encouraging the use of plug-in hybrid vehicles.
"I am gratified the conference has so strongly supported these resolutions, which address numerous issues of vital importance to environmental quality, economic sustainability and human rights," Anderson said in a prepared statement. "Legislative action on these resolutions will benefit Salt Lake City and our entire nation by helping to achieve a more just, peaceful and sustainable world."
The conference of mayors will use the resolutions as policy guides as it works with the U.S. Congress and other federal organizations.
