Alpine councils plan to discuss charter
The council also unanimously passed an ordinance, with some reservation on the part of Councilman Thomas Whitchurch, that will impact the configuration of the school's site plan, including building height, parking requirements and open space. Passage of the so-called size, mass and bulk ordinance effectively lifted a moratorium that the planning commission cited in refusing to act on a site plan that would allow construction of a two-story building.
U.S. Charter Development, which is developing a site for Mountainville Academy on Main Street, has already started digging at the site. The school's developer vowed at a planning commission meeting on June 6 to go ahead with previously approved plans for the site consisting of five small, one-story buildings. School officials say they prefer the two-story building site plan.
That plan will be the focus of the joint session on Thursday at 7 p.m. at City Hall. The council indicated it may act on the proposal at the meeting.
