Williams re-elected to local NAACP post
Williams, who has served as branch president since 1992, ran unopposed for the two-year term. A major goal for the next two years will be to target discrimination in the workplace and schools, she said.
"What we're seeing is that African-Americans with higher education degrees are being overlooked, more or less, for Caucasian employees with less education," she said.
And, in many schools, she said, students racially discriminating against each other is being overlooked.
"We're looking at those and targeting those (cases) and making sure we hold everyone accountable," Williams said.
During Monday's elections at the Utah State Bar Law and Justice Center, branch members also elected Phillip Lee as first vice president, Allen Holmes as second vice president, Curly Jones as secretary and Vanesa Maddocks as treasurer. A slate of executive committee members also was elected.
For more than 95 years, the NAACP has worked to ensure the political, educational, social and economic equality of all people and to end racial hatred and discrimination.
