FARMINGTON — The Davis County Board of Commissioners expects to approve a property-tax increase during a special meeting tonight at 6:30 after first hearing public comment.

The meeting will be held in Building 2 at the Davis County Events Center, formerly known as the Davis County FairPark, located at 151 S. 1100 West in Farmington.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. to allow residents to get information about the tax increase, which the county will use to pay for operations at the recently expanded Davis County Jail, repairs of an ailing flood-control system and more services for the county's senior citizens.

The tax on the county portion of the property-tax bill is expected to go up by $60 per year on the average home valued at $171,000. The tax is expected to bring in $6.8 million as part of the county's $86.7 million budget.

The public hearing will be followed by the commissioners' adoption of the 2007 budget.
