Proposed Frank Gehry-designed megaproject will include tallest building in Utah
Developer Brandt Andersen unveiled new details about his plans, including the building of a five-star hotel that would rise 450 feet in the air. That would surpass the state's two tallest buildings, both in Salt Lake City — the 422-foot Wells Fargo Center and the Church Office Building of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which the church and city list at 435 feet.
The hotel could possibly be made of glass, Andersen said, revealing additional details about the design concepts of internationally famous "starchitect" Frank Gehry.
The development will surround a man-made lake in the bowl on the east side of I-15 just south of the Point of the Mountain. The buildings will rise on either side of the lake, inspired by Utah's natural slot canyons.
The 85-acre development will be a multi-billion-dollar project, Andersen told the Deseret Morning News. It will include a sports arena and residential housing mixed with commercial shops.
Seventy percent of the area will be open space, said Andersen, who submitted plans to city on Wednesday before an afternoon press conference that included Lehi City leaders.
The lake will serve as a secondary irrigation reservoir for Lehi.
