Senate panel backs $50,000 for veterans division
A Senate committee gave unanimous support to a bill that would provide $50,000 in one-time funding for the Division of Veteran's Affairs to provide increased outreach efforts to veterans and their families for benefits and services.
Sen. Fred Fife, D-Salt Lake, told members of the Government Operations Committee that SB231 was made a priority for funding by an appropriations committee.
"This is really a simple bill, but it's a very important bill," Fife said.
Before the 6-0 vote, Sen. Scott Jenkins, R-Plain City, asked if there have been results from the $200,000 appropriated to fund outreach last year.
"Veteran's Affairs has made good use of appropriations provided for that purpose in the past," Fife said.
