I must be quite politically naive. I didn't realize there were so many liberal political hacks at Brigham Young University. Professor Warner P. Woodworth (My View, April 25) has opened my eyes. Liberals are long on criticism and short on logical solutions.

I agree, in part, with what the good professor Woodworth had to say. But I would like to add my own two-cents worth. I think truth will be compromised when Vice President Dick Cheney takes to the podium. Bias will be "enthroned." Surely America is perishing for lack of knowledge. And the press is a bought and paid for accomplice.

I certainly hope Professor Woodworth's classes are not the fact-free zone his My View piece was in regard to Vice President Cheney. I'm sorry to say, if this is the level of his teaching at the Marriott School, he should be doing something else.

The countercommencement appears more like a "senior group project" gone bad. One asks, "what were they thinking?" If I were a professor who gave such an assignment, I would fail them all. I don't expect to see any of the leaders of this movement apprenticing for Donald Trump in the near future!

These students are not toddlers protesting an early bedtime. They are adults who have made a personal political decision not to support Cheney's visit. Their reasons may vary, but the important thing is they have a voice.

Bush and Cheney must be stopped from attacks against Iran and Venezuela that would lead to world war. We have the evidence to convict them of crimes they have already committed.

If previous commencement speeches are any indication, Vice President Cheney will applaud the graduates for their hard work and achievements, encourage them to show gratitude and counsel them to take advantage of America's opportunities.

The mainstream media — including the Deseret Morning News — are in danger of becoming irrelevant. How much paper and ink have you wasted on the Alberto Gonzales "scandal?" I'll bet neither Warner Woodworth nor your editorial page editor has ever voted for a Republican.

The media makes it look like BYU is split in half over this issue. Our friends who are graduating tell us that most of the BYU student body is fine with the vice president coming. It's only a few who have caused the uproar.
