Utah Legislative Fiscal Analyst John Massey announced Friday he's retiring after 20 years in state government.

Massey began working for the analyst's office in 1989 as staff for an appropriations subcommittee. Nine years later, he was named to lead the office that provides budget information to lawmakers, including fiscal notes on all legislation.

"John Massey is conscientious and loyal to his mission. He has handled this extremely high-pressure leadership role very well in the bad times as well as the good," Senate President John Valentine, R-Orem, said.

Massey will retire July 30.
