• Number of companies: 4,304 in information technology and life sciences, as of September 2006. That is up 404, or 10.4 percent, from prior year. Salt Lake County has 2,362, followed by Utah County with 875.

• Number of jobs: More than 62,000, up about 3,000, or 5.1 percent, from September 2005

• Pay difference: Average technology salary is 66 percent higher than the statewide average annual nonagricultural wage.
