Japanese students learn auto repair
OREM Forty-nine Japanese students completed a nine-day automotive course from Utah Valley State College.
The students, from Saitama Technical College near Tokyo, received hands-on experience in collision repair, custom metal fabrication, welding and heavy diesel.
"They get an opportunity to do things they never would in Japan, like working with hydraulics and big diesel trucks," said Don Wilson, UVSC's automotive technology chair.
The students finished the UVSC course July 19. They also spent additional time sight-seeing in Salt Lake City and southern Utah.
UVSC has taught the course to Japanese students for seven years. Their tuition helps provide automotive scholarships at UVSC.
