A Senate panel on Wednesday approved a resolution calling for federal action on immigration reform.

SR3, which refers to an "illegal immigration crisis" is a companion to a House resolution and is the second immigration resolution to receive the support of the Senate Government Operations Committee.

Sponsor Mark Madsen, R-Lehi, amended the resolution to remove wording that would have urged Congress to put a moratorium on guest worker legislation until illegal immigration is brought under control.

It was also amended to remove references to an "invasion" after Sen. Scott McCoy, D-Salt Lake, raised concerns about the language, saying "I don't thing it's a correct characterization."

The bill now moves to the Senate.
