Black Cat Cake
Author: "Betty Crocker's New Cake Decorating" (Macmillan, 1994)
Ingredients
One chocolate cake mix, prepared according to package directions
Dark chocolate frosting
Red or black licorice whips
Yellow gumdrops or orange frosting
Directions
Bake cake in two 8-inch round pans. Use one round for the cat's body. From the other round, cut a crescent shape for the cat's tail. With the remaining piece, cut a head and two ears. Freeze cut pieces uncovered about 1 hour for easier frosting, if desired. Arrange the pieces on tray to form cat. Frost cake, attaching pieces with small amount of frosting. Cut slice off bottom of each yellow gumdrop; use slices for eyes. Use licorice whips for whiskers and front paws.
