Grilled Ham and Pears with Maple Glaze
Main Dishes > Ham >
Ingredients
(Preparation time 10 minutes, cooking 20 minutes)
6 tablespoons pure maple syrup
1/4 cup butter
2 tablespoons yellow mustard
3/4 teaspoon ground allspice
2 large, ripe Bartlett pears, cored and sliced 1/4 to 1/2-inch thick
4 to 6 ham steaks, about 1/2 inch thick
Directions
Prepare grill for medium-hot cooking.
In a small saucepan, combine maple syrup, butter, mustard and allspice; cook over low heat for about 5 minutes.
Place pear slices on grill over medium-hot coals (or under medium-hot broiler) for about 2 minutes per side, basting with maple glaze during cooking. Remove from grill and keep warm. Cook ham steaks on grill for about 5 minutes per side, or until heated through and lightly browned, basting with glaze once or twice. Place ham on platter and top with grilled pears. Drizzle glaze over top.
Pork chops may be substituted for ham; use similar amount of pork and thickness and increase grilling time to 10 to 12 minutes per side. Makes 4 to 6 servings.
