Mulled Spice Packets
Ingredients
10 pieces of cheesecloth
4 oranges
1 piece fresh ginger (5 inches)
10 cinnamon sticks
60 allspice berries
30 whole cloves
Heat oven to 150 degrees (or lowest setting on oven). Cut oranges and ginger into 1/4-inch thick slices. Arrange in a single layer on cooling racks; place in oven. Prop oven door open slightly. Bake for 3 to 4 hours until dried; remove to cool. In each piece of cheesecloth, place 4 orange slices, 2 ginger slices, 1 cinnamon stick, 6 allspice berries and 3 cloves; tie in bundle. Use for mulled cider, wine or grape punch. Makes 10 packets.
To give: Attach to 1/2 gallon of cider or apple juice.
Directions
To make cider: Combine 1/2 gallon cider, 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar, and 1 spice packet. Cover, simmer 10 minutes.
