Phyllis O. Boren's Cherokee Casserole

Ingredients
1 pound ground beef
1/3 cup chopped onions
1 cup tomatoes (14 ounces)
Dash of pepper
1/8 teaspoon thyme
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon oregano
1 cup of Minute Rice
1/2 cup grated cheese
Directions
Brown ground beef and chopped onions with tablespoon of oil. Drain the meat. Stir in ingredients in the order given. Simmer until thoroughly heated. Spoon into one-quart baking dish. Top with grated cheese and bake at 350 degree F. for about 25 minutes, until the cheese is melted. Slices of ripe olives can also be put on the top as the cheese melts. Serves four to six.
