Cheesy Pretzels

Ingredients

Yield: 16

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2/3 cup milk
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
2 tablespoons butter, softened
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 egg, beaten
Coarse salt

Mix flour, milk, cheese, butter, baking powder, sugar and salt with a fork until a soft dough forms. Knead on floured board 10 times. Divide dough in half. Roll half of dough into 8 X 12-inch rectangle. Cut into eight 1-inch strips. Fold each strip lengthwise in half. Pinch edges to seal. Repeat with other half. Twist each strip into a pretzel shape. Place on greased cookie sheet. Brush with beaten egg. Sprinkle with coarse salt. Bake at 400 degrees F. for 20 minutes, or until golden brown.


Directions

VARIATION: Peanutty Pretzels: in place of butter use 2 tablespoons crunchy peanut butter. Omit cheese. In place of coarse salt use 2 tablespoons chopped salted peanuts.
