Banana Spice Squares
Ingredients
Yield: 16-20 servings
1 cup soft shortening (or margarine at room temperature)
2 cups brown sugar (packed)
3 eggs
2 cups mashed bananas (about 4 medium)
3 cups all-purpose flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 6-ounce package semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup walnuts, coarsely chopped
1/3 cup granulated sugar
Directions
Mix well shortening or margarine, sugar, and eggs. Stir in bananas. Mix dry ingredients and blend in. Pour out into a lightly greased large pan (about 12 x 17). Sprinkle over the top the chocolate chips, walnuts and sugar. Bake in 350-degree oven for 40 minutes. Cut into squares.
Each serving contains 365 calories, 17 g fat, 51 g carb, 174 mg sodium, 44 mg cholesterol.
