Ingredients

Preparation time: 15 minutes plus baking time
Yield: 18 cups

10 cups old-fashioned oats
1 cup wheat germ
2 cups coconut
2 cups raw sunflower seeds
3 cups slivered almonds, chopped pecans or walnuts or combination
2 teaspoons cinnamon
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 cup sesame seeds
1 1/2 cups water
1 1/2 cups oil
1/2 cup honey
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup molasses
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
Raisins or other dried fruit (Ottesen prefers apricots)

Directions

Combine dry ingredients except sugar, in large bowl; set aside. Mix brown sugar, water, oil, honey, molasses, salt, cinnamon and vanilla; heat until sugar is dissolved but do not boil. Pour syrup over dry ingredients; stir until well-coated. Spread on lightly greased cookies sheets. Bake 20-30 minutes at 300 degrees, stirring occasionally. For crunchier granola, bake 15 minutes longer. Cool and add raisins or apricots. Store in airtight containers.
