Chocolate-Nut Chewies
Ingredients
1/2 cup margarine, softened
2/3 cup dark brown sugar, packed
1 egg, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/4 cups old-fashioned uncooked oats
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2/3 cup raisins, or a mixture of 1/3 cup raisins and 1/3 cup dried apricots
2/3 cup chopped walnuts
2/3 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a medium mixing bowl, cream together margarine and brown sugar. Add egg and vanilla; beat until well-blended. Stir in oats and flour; mix well. Stir in raisins, walnuts and chocolate chips. Spread batter in a lightly buttered 8-inch square baking pan. Bake in a 350-degree oven for 25 minutes. Cool, then cut into squares. Makes 15 large or 25 small squares.
