Ingredients

6 pounds extra-lean ground beef
1/4 cup dried minced onion
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
1 cup water
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup cider vinegar
1/4 cup yellow mustard
2-3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1-2 tablespoons chili powder
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon bottled hot pepper sauce (optional)
32 hamburger buns, split

Directions

In a 4-quart Dutch oven or pot, cook half the ground beef and the onion until no pink remains. Drain in colander. Cook remaining beef. Drain. Return cooked meat mixture to Dutch oven. Stir in flour, tomato sauce, the water, ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, and if desired, hot pepper sauce. Bring to boiling. Reduce heat. Cover and simmer about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Tightly cover pot. Tote in an insulated carrier. Serve in buns.
