Sausage and Peppers with Parmesan Cheese Grits

Ingredients

Preparation 15 minutes, cooking time 15 minutes

19-ounce package sweet Italian sausage
3 red, yellow or green bell peppers, cut into strips
1 large sweet onion, cut in half and thinly sliced
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 to 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
Parmesan Cheese Grits
Optional garnish: shredded Parmesan cheese

Remove sausage casings, and discard. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook sausage, peppers, onion, garlic, seasoning, garlic powder, salt and pepper, stirring until sausage crumbles and is no longer pink and vegetables are tender. Serve over Parmesan Cheese Grits. Garnish, if desired, with Parmesan cheese. Makes 4 servings.


Parmesan Cheese Grits

Preparation 5 minutes, cooking time 5 minutes


Directions

1 cup grits

4 cups water

3/4 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon butter or margarine

5-ounce package shredded Parmesan cheese

Cook grits according to package directions, using 4 cups water. Stir in salt, butter and Parmesan cheese. Makes 4 servings. Recipes credited to Adelyne Smith, of Dunnville, Ky.
