Ingredients
1/4 cup low-cholesterol oil
1 large onion cut in slivers
2 bay leaves
4 cups water
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon powder
1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
1/4 teaspoon powdered cloves
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups long-grain rice
Directions
Heat oil (or butter, if you prefer.) Saute onions until almost black. Add spices, then add water and allow to come to a boil before adding rice. Stir, and put the lid on. Cook for 10-12 minutes, until all the water is absorbed in the rice. Then turn off the stove burner, place the lid back on the pan of rice and let it stand 5-10 minutes before serving.
