Ingredients

2 tablespoons walnuts
1 oz. unsweetened chocolate
1 cup cake flour, sifted
3/4 cup cocoa
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 large egg whites
2 large eggs
1 1/4 cups sugar
3/4 cup dark corn syrup
3/4 cup unsweetened applesauce, at room temperature
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract


Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Coat a 9-by-13-inch baking pan with non-stick cooking spray. Spread walnuts in pie plate and bake for 8-10 minute or until fragrant; let cool and chop coarsely.

Melt chocolate; set aside.

Combine flour, cocoa and salt. In a large bowl, whisk together egg whites and eggs. Add sugar corn syrup, applesauce, oil and vanilla. Whisk in chocolate. Add the flour mixture to the egg mixture and stir with a wooden spoon until blended. Pour into prepared pan and sprinkle with walnuts. Bake for 30-35 minutes; cool completely and cut. Makes 24 servings.

Each serving contains 129 calories; 4 gm fat; 64 mg sodium; 18 mg cholesterol.
