Reader comments: The Russia House

TED KUBALL | Mar. 25, 2004
Having been to Moscow and St. Petersburg in the late 80's and early 90's, this film captured the essence of what attracts westerners to Russia. The scenery alone is worth the viewing.

A very well-written movie with good acting and a great score. From the writing of Tom Stoppard to the musical composition by Jerry Goldsmith, this solid spy thriller and love story keeps you wanting more. Connery is at his very best, and Pfiefer does a good job as Katya. This movie's real suprise--in addition to the soundtrack--is the performance of Roy Scheider, who is at his cynical best. Surely an adult movie in the best sense of the word, the scenery from Moscow and St. Petersburg--indeed the film was the first western film that the Soviet Union allowed to be shot in their country--is breathtaking. A great movie in every respect. Keith Housewright JKHOUSE@prodigy.net khousewright@slpl.lib.mo.us
