Reader comments: Waiting for Guffman

Everyone involved does a great job of sinking their teeth into these dead-on characterizations. I've been in a number of pit orchestras for local revues, and the characters here are all-too familiar. Laugh-loud-out stuff, especially if you've been through it all. It's good to see Chris Guest and the gang doing what they do best, and Parker Posey's performance ("I'll always have a home at the Dairy Queen") solidifies my opinion that she's the best young actress out there. Watch it repeatedly!

They only let you pick 4 stars? Well stick a fifth on, because it was truly a priveledge to "discover" this little known gem at 2am on cable and sit in utter awe at the hilarity oozing off the screen. And it is my duty to reveal this movie to others who appreciate good-old fashioned fun and can do without the unfulfilled promise of overhyped big budget stinkers (you know, the so-called comedy smashes like Bowfinger and Outside Providence). Corky!!!

I first saw this movie while in production of a stage show I was in. "Guffman" hit head-on. I believe anyone who has ever done theater would find it "ironical" how accurate it is with show business. And although the show may not be Oscar material, the fact that these people improved about every line they had is incredible. It really does take talent to do a show like this. "Guffman" is one of those movies you memorize. You learn it and you don't forget it.

At first I focused all of my attention on Corky, Allan, Ron & Sheila, Libby and Lloyd. You know...the main characters. I found them hilarious and I still do. After viewing Guffman many, many, many times, I began to love the details of the minor characters. Steve Stark is brilliant. Did you see him? God, I wish I was in this movie!!!

this the type of movie you cherish so much you have to closely judge the type of people you share it with to make sure they are worthy of being exposed to this hilarious brand of humor... seriously this is one hell of a funny movie.

Ever "been in a show"? If so, you've met all of these people, and you've laughed at them behind their backs. Now you can do it at full volume. As you may have read above, Christopher Guest has done for community theater what he did for metal bands in "This Is Spinal Tap". Tap was fabulous, but this is the first movie which has given me cause to restrain people against their will in order to view it. If you were to die tomorrow, and on your list of allowed activities before departure was "Rent A Movie", this would be it. It's THAT funny.

I didn't know I could make all that noise laughing so loud. Having worked in community theatre, I found this movie dead-on...as dead-on as Spinal Tap was to depicting outrageously ingrown musicians with an over-exaggerated sense of themselves. Totally Hilarious!!!
