i think it helps to take lots of fresh air, exercise and develop your sense of humour. and try to do something nice for someone every day. keeps you sane and humble and may possibly save your soul. ie don't end up like helen.

Wow, this guy is an idiot. I've never actually read a review by a critic who missed the entire premise of the movie before. The candyman is'nt some random ghost- slasher, he's an entity that was created by people believing in him. that's why he needs to make an example of the helen character, before faith in him is gone and he dissapates. To raed a much more accurate review of Candyman, (by a critic who got the concept) go to www.suntimes.com/ebert and read his review. And fire this chris hicks moron.

you type of people think just because a movie is called horror then it is going to be a wast of time candy man is a good film. it deals with borders of life and between humans just because you can't grasp that does not mean you have the right to moch it.

I highly disagree with the reviewer's position that there is no historical explanation or method behind the Candyman's behavior. If you'll remember, Candyman was the son of an affluent ex-slave. He was born into an anomoly, and was raised within the white world that focused on intellectual achievements as opposed to the physical world of labor that most blacks were assigned to. Candyman is a painter, in search of beauty and truth, and when he falls in love with a white woman, he is lynched. Within the movie, the Candyman doesn't exist, he is the personification of the body and lust in Helen's mind. This shows how even how hard a black man of the day tried to fit into white society, they are remembered as being more of a product of black society.
