Reader comments: Veronica Guerin

DENNIS ORGILL | Oct. 20, 2003
"Based on a true story", this film is a brutally effective portrayal of the events leading up to the murder of Irish journalist Veronica Guerin by drug dealers in 1996. Cate Blanchett is, as always, brilliant and amazing in the title role. All that is lacking in this skillfully directed film is sufficient backstory to allow us to fully understand Ms. Guerin's motivation. It is difficult to comprehend why this young wife and mother would continue brazenly taunting and reporting on extemely dangerous criminals, even after being shot and savagely beaten for her trouble. Highy recommended in spite of this weakness.
