Reader comments: Failure to Launch

The film makers obviously had good intentions and thought up humorous and almost realistic characters. 3 bachelors playing paint ball, rock climbing, etc... Doing the things that bachelors who haven't quite grown up yet are expected to do. Paula and her roommate are old maids and doing their various projects. Kit being the psycho one. If it weren't for the PG-13 elements, it would have been akin to a contemorary "Mormon" movie like "The Singles Ward." This could have, however, been better fleshed out and some subplots and gags could have been edited out. The subplots are almost more interesting than the main plot. The gags unfortunately insult the audience's intelligence. The worst is giving CPR to a mocking bird. After Tripp moves out, his dad (Terry Bradshaw) immediately turns his son's room into his personal "nude room," another gag we could have done without. But maybe it's important to the story to show why Tripp's mother (Kathy Bates) really didn't want him to move out. She didn't want to be alone with her weird husband. What I really want to say is, Kathy Bates is one heck of an actress. Despite some poor direction and storylines, she breathed life into her character. She made a silk purse out of a sow's ear. The rest of the actors and actresses were just getting the movie done.

My ranking is for your reviewer, Jeff. Is he in a bad mood every time a movie comes out? He rarely has anything good to say. I love many of the movies he trashes. Like this one. Very funny and I would definitely recommend it to my friends. I never trust what Jeff has to say about a movie. I usually look to see who's in it and go with my experiences on that actor or director / writers.

I could've lived my entire life without seeing Terry Bradshaw's naked backside. YUCK!!!! Completely unnecessary and gross!
