Reader comments: Da Vinci Code, The

All of the negative reviews had our expectations pretty low so we waited to see this in the dollar theater. My wife and I had both read the book and enjoyed the film. It was accurate to the book until the end, and we thought the film makers made a big mistake in not having the ending that is in the book. If you haven't read the book, the movie is ponderous and the plot is difficult to follow--so I can see why it is getting some low rankings. If you read and liked the book, you will probably enjoy the movie.

I loved the movie. Although I have never read the book. I love geneology thats probobly why I liked it so much. Although I thought that adding the scenes of self inflicted pain should not have been show to the extent that it was. Over all I think it was a wounderful, long, moveie. Movie lasted aboout 2 1/2 hours to 3 hours.

LOVED the book, couldn't wait to see the movie. Unfortunately, I was bored to tears. What a disappointment!!!

I went thinking that this would be a good mistery, if nothing else. It rambled and didn't even have a good story. I did not like the scenes with blood, self inflicted wounds and brief sex. It seemed to be added in the movie for effect. I would have liked to have a good mystery and Tom Hanks, though he is a good actor, was not believable as the historian. I usually like the movies that are rated low, but, I think he has given this movie more credit than it deserves.

The book is far better than the movie. In fact I fell asleep a couple of times. Far too many liberties were taken in changes made to the plot. This one is a renter.

I pretty much know that if Jeff Vice doesn't like a movie, I will. The movie was never meant to be Indiana Jones. It is a movie for those who like to think and figure things out. Vice says it is humorless which is the same criticism he had of The Chronicles of Narnia, but not all movies are meant to be comedies. I read the book and loved it and I do admit the plot would be hard to follow for those who had not read the book. For those who are Christian (I am) and have not seen it yet, the anti-Christian element is greatly watered down in the movie. Even if the book/movie does not answer all of the questions, it does raise very important questions about the history of the Christian Church, what is scripture, the nature of sexuality, the place of women in religion, and the nature of the divinity of Jesus. To seriously contemplate these questions cannot be bad.

As thoroughly preposterous as the premise of this laughable story may be, the film does manage to generate some genuine tedium.

Did not read book so I cannot compare--but if you take your kids they will see blood, self-inflicted pain, male nudity, and a flash of male/female "companionship" watched by others. These things seemed to bother me & I'm hardly a kid. All in all, a great thriller!
