Reader comments: The Pursuit of Happyness

LOVED IT! It made me think: Whoa, wait a minute, does stuff like that really happen? My answer was: It does. It happens to many people, and we just don't realize it. We are so caught up in our every day lives that we don't take the time to reach out to others and help them in their time of need. After watching it, I was sooooo grateful I had my own bed, and a warm house to come to every day. The message that we should never stop chasing our dreams really got through to me, and I know I will never stop chasing my own dream. Will Smith should do more films with his son, they work well together. Excellent movie!!!!

Great film that captures a reality that many people try to look away from. Smith's character is a hardworking, proud, humble man who takes his role as "father" to the edge. It showed my children that not everyone that is homeless is the typical stereotype. Many people are a check or two away from being in the same predicament. Personally I felt as if Smith's performance was one of the best of the year and I do hope that the academy will not only take notice, but put their prize in the hands of a decent film rather than the raunch that they seem to endear themselves to. Go see this movie and take your children as the message is one that is better seen that said.

Great movie in every sense of what a movie should do--if that is to keep the viewer engaged and convinced of its charactors and story line--that might even be entertaining. But I'm not one to appreciate a stress ridden event when the only relief is taking three advil and a Pepsi. That's what I needed after watching the Pursuit of Happyness.

I saw this movie on Christmas Day. This is Will Smith's finest performance by far. I left the theatre feeling that my problems seemed small and insignificant compared to the character portrayed in this movie - yet through hard work and faith, he was able to overcome tremendous obstacles. And Smith's son certainly stole the show. A great, great movie, I highly recommend it.
