I thought the movie was simply stunning. The story does toss a few confusing dream sequences into the movie but it seems to achieve a level of confused that was meant to be. Nobody ever said confusion couldn't be part of a movie experience. If you pay attention though and have more than half a brain, you'll keep up. The visuals are amazing and if you're looking for more than Miyazaki's normal cookie-cut stories (I like them, but the main characters go though the same basic story every time.) Then this is the movie for you.
