Great fun. If you can't suspend reality, and let the universe of the movie take you, then this may not be for you. But, it is great fun. Go Speed Racer Go

Not every movie needs to be a serious commentary or have sophisticated plots. Sometimes a movie should just remove us from reality for a couple hours and entertain without big expectations - this movie does just that. My kids and I really like it. I watched this show growing up (until recently I didn?t know the whole series would fit on less than two DVDs). The plot it right in line with the cartoon. I think the W bros had a unique a wonderful interpretation on a somewhat obscure cartoon.

I HAVE SEEN THIS MOVIE TWICE IN THE SAME WEEK. I LOVE THIS SHOW. ALTHOUGH IT WAS A LITTLE CORNY AT TIMES AND IF YOU HAVE A HISTORY OF SEIZURES IT WOULD SET ONE OFF IT WAS A GREAT MOVIE. THIS MOVIE REGAINED THE WAKOWSKI BROS RESPECT WITH ME. MY FRIEND SAW THIS AND WAS LITERALY ON THE EDGE OF HER SEAT AT THE END. THIS IS WORTH THE $8.00 FOR YOUR TICKET AND THE OTHER $8.00 FOR YOUR DATE. DEFINITLY A MUST SEE. NO MATTER WHAT YOUR AGE YOU SHOULD GIVE THIS A TRY. I'M 19 AND LOVE IT!

Oh, and as to the running time being compared to the cartoon length.. the cartoon was serialized and story arcs sometimes took two and three episodes. I think the movie was kind of like three or four episodes put together.

I thought it was a great, fun movie. I remember watching the cartoon and it was hokey and I knew it, but it was still fun. This movie has some of the stylistic visual elements of the cartoon (like the montage racing) and the parking scene made me laugh at how they were talking about taking their relationship to a new level and actually kissing. Sure everyone may not like it, but it is made to where you could take anyone. I didn't have to worry about watching it first before taking my kids. I saw the trailer and was worried that it was going to suck or be goofy stupid. I had a good time. Anyone who ever played with Matchbox cars as a kid and made weird tracks and crashed their cars should love this.

WOW, what a dumb movie this was. What were they thinking when they made this debacle. What a corny mixed up mess this was! This was SO stupid that we heard others around us joking and laughing at scenes that were not ment to be laughed at. People were openly mocking the movie. This movie has a entertainment level of somewhere between a low budget Japanimation cartoon and a poorly received Disney sequel. Don't waste your time especially at $8.00 per ticket. This is even hard to justify at the local Red Box. Booooo!

Awesome!!! I want to see it again!!!

I saw it this weekend as well. It was a fun show. The W bros. way of telling the story starts out unconventional and the visuals are very stylized and nothing really seems grounded in reality. This may turn some people off, but, if like another poster said, if you go in with no or low expectations, you might just have a good time. On yahoo movie the average user rating is a B, but the results seemed rather polarized, most either really liked it or really hated it. If your idea of a good time is sipping tea and eating small cucumber sandwiches while watching the A&E version of Pride and Prejudice, then this movie probably not for you. As just a good kids summertime movie, you just might like it.

If it really did get zero stars (which is deserved in this particular case is still unclear), then maybe the desnews should print "zero stars", or a picture of a turkey, or something. Anything instead of nothing.

I think he gave it 0 stars. That's why you don't see any.

I went with rather low-expectations. This movie is hands down on the hippest, coolest, most fun movies I have seen in years. The performances were spot on, the action was incredible. We loved this movie. Frankly, we enjoyed it more than "Iron Man". Do yourself a favor and GO GO GO see Speed Racer.

So how many stars?

Just back from watching it, and my kids and I LIKED IT quite a bit actually. True, there is a violent scene near the beginning (serious not slapstick) that they did not need, but most of the rest is akin to PowerRanger style fighting along with some corny fighting. They also used a few of the lesser swear words, but the rest of the show was a fun PG outing. There is some seriousness to the dilemmas of Speed and his family. There is plenty of corny humor. There is LOTS of fun special effects driven racing. For the most part it is just a fun movie. I think in this case that Mr. Vice has just become a little too sophisticated to enjoy just an overall fun movie with no agenda to push; but to each his own. Do not go expecting to be moved in a serious way. Do not look for an agenda. Just go for the fun.

So how many stars?

as with MOST (if not all) video game/ cartoon/ race car movies. . . all show & no go. Just watching a trailer of this thing made me nauseous. I realize of course I am not the target audience for this. I am afterall over 14, but I should be. I watched this cartoon as a kid. I hated it then too, but that's another story.
