Reader comments: WALL*E

Cutest movie ever! Although I will say sir jeff vice of well movie commenting is totally wrong about the downfall of ratatouille and cars! Those were adorable shows and car totally took a lift off the ground! My brother is special needs and cars really made the difference! He would always try and come in first and be the best he could! But we are not talking about those movies we are talking about WALL*E! It is such a cute movie! Everyone will love this movie! It is so cute and it has a really good story line! The animation is also really good! This movie shows you that you don't really need words to make an amazing film! It doesn't actually start having people talk till the end! Great movie two thumbs and two big toes way up!

I thought Wall-E was amazing! Wall-E is by far my favorite Disney/Pixar character, he's just so cute. The graphics are awesome. I was truly astonished by how little dialogue there was and how much of the story was told by facial/body expressions...genius!

Not a fan of Wall*E. Even looking past the obvious ?in your face- Green Agenda, the story line just plain lacked. It was clearly not up to par with previous PIXAR films that my family has purchased a watched many times. Those other classics never seem to get old. I can tell you I won?t even be temped to buy this one and my son who didn?t like it either wont miss not having it. My sister and her family thought it was disappointing as well. Wait for this to come out on Red Box and watch it. It?s worth a dollar to satisfy your curiosity buck not 8.50 or even the early show for 5.50.
Those who claim that there is no political message are either liars ?Green in disguise- or just plain dumb. Lets take a quick look at the obvious:
1- The female robot is named ?Eve-
2- Eve is searching for life
3- All the Americans are Fat and Spoiled and Lazy
4- They obliviously consume everything in their path and have servants to clean up after them.
5- They didn?t care about the environment and have ruined Earth.
6- The Americans are now so out of touch that they have no idea what they?ve done.
I mean come on, this film has Al Gore stamped all over it. Whether you agree with Al or not, you shouldn?t push agendas like this through a kid?s movie.

Too political? Propaganda? Honestly? Those who make these claims are either so dense that even WALLE couldn't compact their skulls, or only have the time to comment because Hannity and Colmes is on commercial. There is nothing political about the message that 1. Being overly lazy can lead to negative consequences 2. Littering is bad 3. Excessive Consumerism is bad. These are universal themes found in every major religion and philosophy, with few exceptions.

Having watched this movie becomes a more painful experience every time I think about it. Had I known of the obvious "going green" political agenda that slaps you in the face throughout the movie, I never would have gone to see it. It made me uncomfortable. It's certainly not worth the money or the time. The only relief I have is that the "short" they showed prior to the feature about the magician was incredibly funny. That's what my kids talk about the most. This movie is propaganda disguised as a children's movie. I'm disappointed the review didn't talk more about it and give consumers a heads-up.

This movie was weak. Too bad, PIXAR is no longer hitting 1000.Save your money for another kids movie that isn't political. I'm most disappointed that for the first time ever PIXAR went political with a story. I wish I had stayed home and watched Cars or the Incredibles again. I'm sure the Greens in LA will love this one, they can have it.

in response to those who feel the "message" is overbearing and extreme, yes, you can find a message if you're looking for one. often people praise movies for giving a positive message, I really don't see why Wall-E is getting a bad rap for having a very subtle message. in all honesty they had a story to tell, and the setting was a world filled with garbage. don't let a politically charged environment ruin an absolutely amazing movie for you.

I disagree with a few of the recent comments. I was a pessimist about Wall*e. I thought I wouldn't like it. But Wall*e totally won me over. Near the end of it my 5 yr old granddaughter leaned over and whispered to me, "This is a really good movie". I agree. The environmental message is there but the characters are more important than that message - the story is more important. I?ll see it again and again. Beautiful movie and lots of fun!

I felt very misled. I saw this movie on July 3 and disagree with Jeff Vice on these points.
(1) It has a heavy-handed message -- dominated by a garbage-filled world and people living ?virtual? lives in a mechanical world. (2) The emotion is cold (unlike Ratatouille, which had much warmth, laughs, and many delights). The only laughs were from one man in front of us who roared whenever something got smashed. No laughs from children. Any warmth came from the ?Hello Dolly? video the little robot watched. This movie was enough to make you long for old-fashioned musicals. The words of the song ?It?s only takes a moment . . . to be loved your whole life through . . .? were the most upbeat part of this picture. This is G-rated, not offensive, but not for little children. It?s a shame. Interesting. Not fun.

I decided to take my kids to this movie last night because the reviews on here were so good. You're all wrong. It was lame to say the least. My 4 & 5 year olds didn't even especially like it. I give it 2 stars. Wish we had gone to see Kung Fu Panda instead. It got worse ratings though, I can't justify watching it at all ever if it was worse than this boring snorer! I know now never to trust Jeff Vice. His ratings are very helpful now, if he likes it, no way will I watch it. He hates it, I'm going to the theater for that one! This is not the Little Mermaid, Peter Pan or Toy Story. It's not as good as Nemo. It ranks down there with Cars or Shrek (although not as annoying).

Well we went to see WALL*E the other day and loved it! I keep expecting to be disappointed with the new Pixar cartoons that continue to come out but remain impressed. For those of you that disliked this one.....its a shame. You are too hard to please.

The movie was cute, and I did appreciate the fartless humor so lacking in children's cinema these days. The animation is spectacular, but if you don't want a subtle green manifesto don't see it, it's in there. Earth hating conservative, or earth worshipping liberal. The movies centers the story over an opinion on global consumption. Most people won't care and will appreciate the fun part of the movie, which is decent enough.

From what I got, the only political messages in the film are "don't trash the world" and "don't be a lazy slob."
Hardly deserving of the ire of ultra-conservatives that trash anything that might have the slightest hint of telling people to be responsible with the environment.
However, the film wasn't about the messages, it was about funny, unique characters in a fun and involving story. Great film.

as an animator this movie nearly blew my head off my shoulders, every aspect of the movie was phenomenal. as a regular movie goer, this movie also took me on an unforgettable ride.
to those who say the first pixar films were better because they didn't have a political agenda, this one doesn't either. Pixar uses animation to tell stupendous stories which delight and entertain.
Best movie I have ever seen, replaced the incredibles as my favorite after some thought went into it. definitely go see this movie.

If you want a clever, beautiful political add, with the an undertone agenda as opposed to blatant and insulting, this is the movie for you. Consumorism is the ultimate destroyer of worlds. Sorry, but I don't need to spend $8 per ticket to see that. I can get that for free when I watch almost any television program either via some commercial or some insinuating comment delivered by an attractive actor or actress. I really preferred the product Pixar had prior to the politically correct creativity white washing of Disney's corporate culture. Fun, escape, nostalgia were the original Pixar films, now we have "How can we deliver a political message and still make it entertaining?" Allegory can be useful, and it can be manipulative, I thought this was manipulative.

I agree that its a very good thing that Pixar focuses on story and character development, and thankfully they don't spend time on fart jokes.
With that said, I just didn't connect with Wall*e and its heavy weight storyline. The message was good and all (definitely no argument there), I was just always checking my watch to see when I could leave.
I did find it incredibly ironic that a significant percentage of the audience looked like they were models for the humans in the movie. I wondered what they thought about it as they slurped down their 128 oz drinks and porked down the extra large, extra butter popcorn.

In my opinion - this was the most boring show pixar has made. What a dissapointment. Very heavy political overtones - and the plot was drudgery. If Finding Nemo is the 4 stars bar for animation - then this disapointment should have been given only 2 stars.

Consider that Pixar never leans on big budget voice talent to get people to come to their movies. Pixar focuses on story and character development. You won't find stupid puns, fart jokes, toilet humor or any of the litany of other low brow stupidness that other kid marketed features are awash in. This is just plain delightful storytelling, animation and character development...oh, and it looks beautiful as well.

Vice didn't mean that Cars never "took off" as in making money - he meant the story never took off. And i agree with him, Cars was a disappointment.
| Jun. 28, 2008
My wife says ditto to the first four comments. (And BTW, we love CARS too!!!). I however loved Walle, but with just one disappointment; the secondary characters just did not have the character development or integration into the overall movie that Pixar has done so well in the past. Other than that, this a top notch family film. Pixar hasn't let us down yet!

Such a wonderful movie! I was skeptical at first, but I am glad I caved and saw it. The movie was funny and cute and had many good messages. Definitely worthy of the 4 stars.
| Jun. 28, 2008
Stupendous graphics, good character development, and great story. This movie deserves, dare I say it, 5 out of 4 stars
| Jun. 27, 2008
I had given up on Vice ever giving a 4 star rating to a family film, so it is extra nice to see it on a Pixar movie. I was going to see it in any event, but now I'm extra excited about it. However, he said Cars (my personal favorite Pixar movie) never took off?! $60 million opening weekend, $244 Million US Gross, $461 Million Worldwide Gross!! It covered its $70 Million production costs in the first week!! Heavens, they've probably made at least a Billion more in marketing the Cars brand. Uh, yeah, it took off. Oh, BTW, the "real" Lightning McQueen in the Pixar parade at California Adventure is the single coolest thing in that parade, IMO.

I think this show is cute, funny, creative, colorful, not offensive at all, and has many wonderful messages without it ever feeling like you are being preached at.
There is not a lot of dialogue, but this show is so good you hardly notice.
I hate paying full price for a movie and have not done so in about a year now because too many of them just aren't worth it, but I did for this and I do not regret it.
One of the best movies made in my opinion. I thought it was pretty good when I left the theatre, but the more I think about it the more I like it.
Can't wait to go pay full price to see it again! :)
