Reader comments: Get Real

The film was okay. I felt, however, that it concentrated on the wrong boy. It was really John who has the major issues with which to deal. His entire life has been laid our him. At one point in the film he mentioned that his going to a particular college, after high school, had been decided for him. His homsexuality is the least of problem. In fact, he has been only coming to terms with his homosexuality for 6 months (after being in total denial the previous 6 months.) Unlike Steven he is not ready. He mostly overwhelmed and still confused. Yet at the end he is left alone, still loving Steven, while Steven is free to go party with his fat female friend. Steven should have talked to John prior to his drama queen scene at school. He owed that to him. We are left not knowing what is going to happen to John and frankly I feel it is John who need the support. Steven is no hero and Jon is not a villain.

I have seen many movies dealing with teen homosexuality, and I believe this one was the best. I could acknowledge everything the two teens went through, and the movie seriously touched me, on how I look at my relationships with other agys now. The end of the movie, left me a little empty, but so does life.

I believe that Get Real was an excellent movie. I was amazed by the profound acting talent of Ben Silverstone. It is definitely one of my favorite movies now and Silverstone is absoultely now one of my favorite actors. I really was absorbed into the movie. I really enjoyed it.

This movie is richly believable and wonderfully played out. The star "Ben Silverstone" is at his best. Not to mention cute charm and wit. His better half Brad Gorton is also realisticly intriguing. I saw this movie eight times in a three day period I loved it soooo much! The other thing I liked about this movie was the dialogue and the fact it was so modern. I give this movie a four star rating and cannot wait to purchase the video. Ben, you are richly delicious in this film!

Excellent, thought-provoking movie. I've only seen it once on video, but plan to watch it a few more times. Ben Silverstone's performance was realistic, and his relationship with John Dixon (school stud par excellence) was both heart-warming and angst-filled. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone who has had to deal with questions of sexual orientation.

I loved it. I'm a 16 year old male and thought it was one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. I personally thought the movie lived up to what I expected from it. It help me realize that this situation is not to uncommon. I would like to say Ben Silverston and Brad Gorton did an exellent job portraying the parts of two young gay men coming to grips with their sexuality.

I think that your movie critic did not give the movie "Get Real" all that it is due. Ben Silverstone stars in his third movie; he is not a newcomer. The movie is not too long and it lives up to its title. Jeff Vice needs to check the facts on items before making such sweeping statements. I saw the film eleven times.
