Fremont Indian State Park

While excavating for a new freeway through central Utah, construction workers uncovered a centuries-old Indian village in Clear Creek Canyon.
To preserve the ancient village, state officials dedicated the area, about 20 miles southwest of Richfield adjacent to I-70, a state park in 1987.
Fremont Indian State Park has a treasury of pit houses and other archaeological remnants from the largest-known village in the southwest of this primitive tribe. Many of the artifacts uncovered during excavation are on display in the park's museum, along with a video history of the Fremont people. The park also has about 12 miles of scenic trails, from which tourists can view petroglyphs and pictographs.
The state park is about 180 miles from Salt Lake City and has a 31-space campground. Day-use fee at the park is $5 per vehicle. Camping is $10 per night. More information is available by calling the park at 1-435-527-4631 or by visiting parks.state.ut.us/parks/www1/frem.htm.
