U.S. Trials end with tight battle
OGDEN The U.S. Olympic Curling Trials came to a close Sunday with the Craig Brown Rink defeating the Scott Baird Team 8-2 in a tiebreaker for second and third places. It was a bittersweet victory for Team Brown, which had opened the Trials earlier in the week at The Ice Sheet with a 3-0 lead in round-robin play.
But nine straight wins sent the Tim Somerville Rink back to the Olympics for the second time. They represented the United States in the 1998 Games in Nagano, finishing fourth.
Moments after the Sunday morning tiebreaker, Brown said despite knowing they weren't going to the Olympics, his team still wanted to win. "We figured that since we had to get up this morning, we might as well curl. We played well."
