Arbitrators overrule IOC board, allow bobsledder to compete
A panel of arbitrators Tuesday reversed the IOC Executive Board's decision to bar Latvian bobsledder Sandis Prusis from the Games.
A three-member panel of the Court of Arbitration for Sport declared the bobsledder eligible to participate.
Prusis had tested positive for anabolic steroid nandrolone three months ago.
The three-month suspension was to have expired this week, but the IOC said Friday he could not participate in the Games because the timing of the three-month ban, which was imposed retroactively and was far short of a normal suspension, went against the spirit of Olympic anti-doping rules.
But the trio of CAS arbitrators disagreed with the IOC's decision.
