Eggs, milk, Olympic tickets. . .

'Fan Vans' will give shoppers a chance to win at grocery stores
By Jeff Oliver
Deseret News staff writer
"Attention shoppers, free Olympic tickets on aisle 3."
That announcement or a similar one may make shoppers at Albertson's and Harmon's blink when they hear it in the coming weeks.
While it hopefully won't induce the sort of stampede for tickets witnessed last weekend, it should motivate shoppers to hustle to put their name in the hat provided by drivers of the Coca-Cola/KSL "Fan Van."
The three festively decorated vans will make surprise appearances throughout the 2002 Winter Games. The free tickets will be to hockey, speed skating, short track skating, skiing and other Olympic events, says Steve Poulten, marketing director for KSL.
"This will allow the community to see the games in their back yard," Poulten said.
Those who want to get a jump on the vans can watch the morning news on KSL. Poulten says the station will announce the vans' daily route every morning between 6:45 a.m. and 7 a.m.
Poulten promises no one at the stores will be able to miss the vans. "There's going to be a lot of hoopla in the parking lot when they arrive."
At each of the Harmon's or Albertson's locations, van drivers will make an announcement over the intercom and then enter the names of the shoppers into a drawing.
The first three people chosen will then compete in a trivia contest to decide who will get the three to four tickets, said Maria Perez, spokeswoman for Coca-Cola Co.
Perez says the program is meant to reward local Olympic fans who otherwise would not be able to attend the Games.
The "Fan Van," will also provide the winners with transportation to whatever event their tickets correspond.
Perez says the vans will distribute more then 150 tickets during the Games.
Through Feb. 10 the vans will be devoted to Harmon's stores. From then to to Feb. 22 the vans will be sneaking up on customers at Albertson's.
