We're sure you remember one of the more unusual Olympic teams from a few years ago: the famous Jamaican bobsled team, whose "Cool Runnings" wound up as a feature film.
The town of Evanston has taken them under its wing, along with a real giant in the Olympic world.
First there's the hometown hero.
Rulon Gardner is actually from Afton, Wyoming. But folks in Evanston have adopted him like one of their own.
And they sat in heated bleachers to hear some inspirational thoughts.
"Every day of my life, I've worked and worked to be the best. And if life never goes your way today, there's always tomorrow and the next day. With hard work, and keep dreaming," Gardner said.
In the crowd, other adopted sons of Evanston, members of the legendary Jamaican bobsled team. This week they've unveiled the sled which they hope their teammates can ride down the chute and right to the top.
Garnet Jones, the Jamaican reserve brakeman, sounds confident. "Yes, we can. That's what we're here for, to go all the way."
"I think we have a good chance of finishing in the top ten," adds Jamaican sled technician Wayne Thomas. "And if you're in the top ten, anything can happen."
The Jamaicans settled in here because there's quick access to Park City, and because Evanston residents seem determined to make their life easy.
Thomas says, "You go buy lunch, you get discounts. You go to store, you get discounts. Everywhere you go, they're like family to us."
Jones says,"This is like home away from home. The people here are great. They treat us like brothers and sisters."
"We're excited for them to be here, too," says Evanston resident Trudy Lym. "They've been really involved in the community and with the kids, and everybody."
With a big crowd, you could almost forget you're in another state. It feels like the Olympics are in Evanston.
Just ask Janet Mende. "I've never seen this many cars in town. Ever."
The price of fame: the David who beat Goliath in Sydney gets challenged by lots of little Davids in a tug of war.
And the kids proved they could someday be Olympic contenders themselves.
They left Rulon Gardner saying, "They must have a truck hooked on to the back of those kids."
Just like the official big-time venues here in Salt Lake, up in Evanston they have a jumbo TV screen to watch Olympic events. The party is up and running every day, and you can expect the fun to peak next Sunday, when the bobsled team gets its chance for Olympic glory.
