Women's curling: Favored Canadians win opener

OGDEN, Utah The Canadian women's curling team, favored to win the gold medal, opened the Olympics with a 5-4 victory over Sweden Monday.
Canadian skip Kelley Law put her team in control when she scored four just before the halfway break.
Law was able to capitalize after four-time world champion skip Elisabeth Gustafson left Sweden vulnerable by missing on a double takeout attempt.
In other matches, Germany defeated Russia 8-5, Switzerland beat Norway 10-6 and Britain beat Norway 10-6.
The United States begins play Tuesday against Japan.
