Cross country resumes today
By Jesse Hyde Deseret News staff writer
SOLDIER HOLLOW The U.S. men's cross country team returns to action today in the combined pursuit, two days after John Bauer recorded the best U.S. Olympic finish in 26 years.
Bauer finished 12th in Tuesday's 15K classic race, followed by Patrick Weaver, who finished 16th, and Kris Freeman in 22nd place.
"Anyone of us can put it together on a good day," Weaver said. "We can be in the top 20, especially on our home course.
Bauer, Weaver and Freeman will all race today, as will Justin Wadsworth, the nation's top cross country skier. Wadsworth pulled out of Saturday's opening event, the men's 30K mass start, because of a cold that also forced him to skip Tuesday's race.
The combined pursuit is broken up into two parts. In the morning, the men will ski 10 kilometers in the classical style, take a short break, and finish the day with another 10 in the freestyle technique.
