U.S. snowboarders to begin next phase — alpine events

By Dennis Romboy
Deseret News staff writer

With four medals in two days, halfpipe riders have set the bar high for the rest of the U.S. Olympic Snowboard Team.
Alpine racers take to Park City Mountain Resort on Thursday when parallel giant slalom makes its Winter Games debut. The event pits snowboarders in head-to-head competition on slalom course. Winners of each heat move to the next round; losers go home.
Qualifying for the 16-rider men's and women's elimination round is Thursday. The finals are Friday.
Liver transplant recipient Chris Klug and Jeff Greenwood figure to be the best U.S. hopes for medals on the men's side.
Rosey Fletcher is the top U.S. women's racer; Lisa Kosglow has had one of her best World Cup seasons.
France and Austria will field strong men's and women's teams.
