Hart to highlight at Ethnic Village
Former Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart will headline Friday night's festivities at the Ethnic Village, 200 S. 400 West.
The village at the south end of The Gateway shopping center features free entertainment every day of the Olympics, along with ethnic food, fine art, crafts and clothing. On the stage, performers from Utah's ethnic communities are offering an array of music and dance, from jazz to Polynesian.
Salt Lake Mayor Rocky Anderson and local children who belong to the NAPAH coalition of Native American, African American, Polynesian, Asian American and Hispanic residents of Utah will take the stage at 4:30 p.m. to declare Friday "ethnic day." Then musicians and dancers Drew Lacappa, Darrell Tonoma and Maurice and the Brothers K will perform from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Hart and his band, the Jets, will play from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. The Ethnic Village stays open until 1 a.m. and admission is free.
Parking is plentiful around the village, on the streets and in The Gateway's lots.
